Our buses are LEZ compliant

In January 2014, Oxfordshire County Council implemented a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) in Oxford City Centre. This means that all buses operating within the LEZ have to meet the highest ‘Euro V’ standards for NOx (oxides of Nitrogen). We were fully compliant, even prior to the introduction of the LEZ.

In 2020, we invested £1.2m in eight new, ultra-low emission vehicles during the year, and more than two-thirds of our fleet now meets the Euro VI emissions standard, helping to improve air quality in the areas we operate.

Providing greener travel options for Oxford

We aim to provide the best possible service whilst minimising our environmental impact. We now have one of the highest percentages of electric-hybrid buses in a bus fleet in the UK.

We feel this goes a great way to achieving our aim.

ISO50001 accreditation

The ISO50001 landmark, accredited by the International Standards Organisation, is a standard of excellence for energy management. We were awarded the certificate as part of the Go-Ahead Group of transport operators, which is the first bus group in the UK to achieve this recognition.

The award is evidence of our commitment to emissions reduction, a smaller carbon footprint and improved air quality.

In 2013 Oxford Bus Company became the first Oxfordshire business to develop a community-benefit renewables project with the Low Carbon Hub; a commitment that led to the Company being commended by the Prime Minister. Solar PV was installed on the depot roof in Cowley, Oxford and this produces electricity for the Company, with profits being used to fund local community projects.

In 2016 the company invested in the latest generation LED lighting to further reduce the carbon footprint of its depot premises. Initiatives such as these have seen site energy usage fall by more than 40% over the last 5 years.
