Fare Changes from 1st January 2025

Change in Government Fare Cap & Changes to Ticketing and Fares from 1st January 2025

From 1st January 2025, the Government’s National Bus Fare Cap of £2 for Single tickets changes to a £3 cap. Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel will continue to participate in the scheme to keep Single tickets capped to £3, although from this date many of our fares will be cheaper than this.

We work hard to keep our fares as low as possible for our customers, so tickets for most journeys within cities and towns including Oxford, Abingdon and Didcot will be lower than £3, with Return tickets continuing to offer savings on the price of two journeys (where available). Our comprehensive range of longer period tickets, including Day tickets, multi-trip tickets and longer duration passes continue to offer great value for those using the bus more frequently.

From the same date, we’re making a number of changes to our ticketing range including a limited number of price revisions:

  • The price of the SmartZone Day Ticket is revised to £5.00 for Adults and £10.00 for a Group, with the Group ticket to now additionally available on the Oxford Bus app.
  • The CityZone Day FreeFlow cap is revised to £4.50.
  • The price of combined CityZone & CountryZone Day Tickets is revised as follows:

We’ve also withdrawn some less well used tickets from sale to help keep our range of products as straightforward as possible for customers:

  • 10 Trip Tickets sold on Thames Travel services for specific point-to-point journeys are withdrawn with the following exceptions:

    • Adult tickets for journeys between Oxford and Harwell Campus, which are only available on the Oxford Bus app.
    • Child/Student tickets on services 63S, BB1, BB1A, BB2, BB4 and BB5. These will be withdrawn at the end of the 2024/25 Academic Year.

Existing 10 Trip Tickets will continue to be accepted until all journeys have been used.

  • Through Tickets will no longer be available on any Oxford Bus or Thames Travel service apart from services 136 and 139 in the Wallingford area. Our range of great value Day tickets offers a perfect alternative for these journeys.
